| a.j. rosales is a chicago
singer/songwriter/guitarist who has been on the scene in one form or another for nearly a
decade. With immaculate folk/rock sensibilities, and a sound that blends intricate
textures with accessible harmonies, you'll find that a.j. is someone who plays music that
inspires, challenges and affects you. 'Resistor' is the first full length solo CD from
Chicago's a.j. rosales and the follow up to his Earth and Shoal EP, which was featured by
and charted on many college and independent radio stations. This time around a.j. takes
his melodic and accomplished musical stylings and strips them down to reveal his true
self. Not an overblown, overproduced sound - unrepresentational of the music - this is the
real deal. The 'Resistor' LP also features bass performances by Shawn Sommer, a well known
local pro. Several songs on the album have been rated in the top ten 'best guitars' and
'best bass' of *ALL TIME* at garageband.com in both the pop/rock and folk/rock category. His song 'Union' is
currently in the #1 slot on that reviewer rated guitar chart. He's also been featured on
WXRT's local anesthetic and is starting once again to gig and promote his new album. His 'Earth and Shoal' EP was recorded with the help of drummer Todd Parola and Bassist Mark Dwyer. Earth and Shoal got distributed to about 300 college radio stations in the Spring of 2000, and charted on some of them, including WRMU in Alliance, Ohio, which reported that Earth and Shoal was the #1 thing they were playing (edging out the Smashing Pumpkins). "Sweetest Thing" also made it onto the May edition of CMJ's "certain damage" CD, and went around to almost 40,000 people. Around this time, Abercrombie and Fitch also decided to use "Sweetest Thing" to play in their retail stores. Then it was thrown on a couple of indie compilations, and played on NPR (WBEZ chicago). Once the word got out, it actually ended up at the top of Rollingstone.com's "unsigned artist list", and in the top 150 at garageband.com!
