If you look up the journeys of talented musicians, then invariably we come to know that their association with music started at a very early age. She began her music career gigging at small clubs along the coast of Britain, and also using the streets of Paris as a stage to showcase her talent. Moore became one of the founding members of Poi Dog Pondering, when she enrolled at the University of Hawaii. The band earned a loyal cult following, on signing to Columbia a major label, and the seeds of Abra Moore's tryst with music career were sown. Though this group was very successful, Moore decided to char her own solo course and left the group in early 1990s. 'Sing', her debut L.P was collection of intimate folk pop came out in 1995 on the Bohemia Beat label, which saw her getting rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. She then signed up with Arista Austin and released 'Strangest Places', wherein Moore explored and more edgier set moving closer to contemporary alternative rock. Almost five years went by before her third album released, titled 'No Fear, followed by Everything Changed on Koch Records in 2004.
The Name, 'Everything Changed' aptly describes her career at this point and also what went on in the six years between this album and her debut , 'Strangest Places', which had earner her a Grammy nomination for the hit "Four Leaf Clover". 'Everything Changed' essentially comes from the inner depths of Abra Moore's hearts and is about breaking away, beginnings, endings and last but the not the least starting afresh. To have an idea about some of these instances we need to look into the contours of her past and all that she has gone through to reach this position of glory. Post the Grammy award nomination in 1998 for Best Female Vocal Performance, Moore hit the live performance trail with a bang, touring with the likes of Collective Sour, Matchbox 20, and the Barenaked Ladies. On her return to Austin to record the follow up to her first album, problems kept intruding. Her father fell ill, and she had to return to Hawaii to care for her ailing painter father. Add to that, her moving form Arista to J Records, courtesy Clive Davis, and you have the recipe of troubled times. These are just few of the many speed breakers that made their appearance in her career.
But, through sheer grit and determination, she has managed to cast all that aside, and has now returned as a much stronger artist in terms of songcraft and composition. She is truly a remarkable singer and is extraordinarily talented. If you want to have a taste of this talent then you must buy your tickets to Abra Moore Live!
