Alice in Chains is one of the heavy metal band of the early '90s . Their son numbers were hard enough for metal fans, yet their punky rhythms makes them one of the best ranked Seattle-based grunge bands. With the growing popularity, their second album which was released in 1992 titiled "Dirt" got mind blowing responses all over the world. Although the album went platinum, the group could no longer perform as a team, eventually splitting them completely.

Band members like guitarist Jerry Cantrell and vocalist Layne Staley started pursuing their careers individually because of their varied interests in the mainstream music. With the growing internal tensions in the group, they never could prove themselves as true artists. In 1987, Staley met Cantrell at the Seattle rehearsal warehouse the Music Bank where both of them started working together and renamed the band as "Alice In Chains". The new line up included Cantrell's pals with Mike Starr as bassist, and Sean Kinney on drums. Initially the band played at the local Seattle clubs. But, in the year of 1989, they were made to sign a record deal with Columbia Records and released "We Die Young" which was a smashing hit song. The song grabbed the attention of the metal lovers making the band as one of the popular one. "Facelift" was the debut album of the band that was released in the same year.

With a handful of successful releases during the course of their musical career, Alice In Chains' second album "Nirvana" became a media sensation throughout Seattle. Apart from releasing albums, the group went touring at several places. In 1993, they went on the third Lollapalooza tour which also sold nearly three million copies of their album "Dirt".
