Background:
Alison Krauss was born on July 23, 1971. She grew up in Champaign, Ill and had very encouraging parents who encouraged her and her brother, Viktor, to play music instruments at an early age. Later she took up the violin,and discovered fiddle contests and bluegrass festivals. She originally became famous as an instrumentalist, but soon it was her voice that captivated everyone's attention.

Krauss signed with Rounder Records as an artist at the age of 14. Not only did she produce her own recordings with Union Station, she also produced three albums for the Cox Family and two for Nickel Creek.

She started her recording career with the release of her album, Too Late to Cry, in 1987. Her band released in 1989 Two Highways.

Their next release in 1995 Now That I've Found You was a double platinum and sold more than 2 million copies. Her other three projects, included the 1999's solo album Forget About It. It was certified gold for sales of 500,000 copies. The band's 2002 concert album, Live, was certified platinum.

She has sung and played on recordings for some of the greatest artist as Bad Company, Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, John Michael Montgomery, Michael McDonald, Michael Johnson, Dolly Parton, Alan Jackson, Rhonda Vincent, Dar Williams, Brad Paisley, the Chieftains, Kris Kristofferson, Kenny Rogers, Ralph Stanley, Shenandoah and Phish. She has won a total of 14 Grammys by 2003.

Krauss worked with rock star Sting for "You Will Be My Ain True Love," which was a track she recorded for the 2003 film, Cold Mountain. The song got her an Oscar nomination. She also worked with James Taylor and recorded "How's the World Treating You" for the 2003 tribute album, Livin', Lovin', Losin'. They won a Grammy and Live won two. By 2004, Krauss has won 17 Grammys.
