Barenaked Ladies are a Rock band and hail from Toronto, Canada. The band was formed by friends Ed Robertson and Steven Page. They heard the term "Barenaked Ladies" at a Bob Dylon Concert in 1988, the word stuck with both of them. They thought it would be the ideal name for a band and thus the Barenaked Ladies were born. They lineup was expanded with the addition of bassist Jim Creeggan, his brother Andy Creeggan on the keyboard and drummer Tyler Stewart.

The Boys released their debut album "Yellow Tape" in 1991. The album was released independently and although their was initial speculation about the success of the album, it went on to become the only Indie release to go platinum in Canada. The success of the album got the band instant recognition and started a bidding war between record labels. Sire Records managed to bag the band and subsequently the Barenaked Ladies released their major label debut album, "Gordon" in 1992. Singles like "Be My Yoko Ono," "Enid" and "If I had $1,000,000" became huge hits.

The band released their next album, "Maybe You Should Drive" in 1994. Singles like "Alternative Girlfriend" and "Jane" became Radio favorites. The band had a shuffle when Andy Creeggan left the band to pursue higher education. Billy Bragg was the replacement for Andy, initially he only covered for Andy but became a permanent member soon enough. His musical ability was a part of the band's first live album, "Rock Spectacle." The album established the Barenaked Ladies as a powerful band and was certified gold.

Barenaked Ladies released their fifth album, "Stunt" in July 1998. The single, "One Week" became their most celebrated hit to date and rocketed the band into the big league. The album debuted at number three on the Billboard Charts. This success was followed by the release of "Maroon," two years later. The album was a moderate success and the single, "Pinch Me" got reasonable airplay. The band supported the album by extensive touring.

The same year, the band were nominated for the Grammy Awards in the "Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal" category for their single "Pinch Me." The were also honored with two Juno Awards for Best Pop Album and Best Group. The band released Everything to Everyone in 2003.
