It's time to get your tickets to see the ultimate exponents of UK House spinning and swinging live on stage- it's time to get your tickets to see Basement Jaxx live in concert. This English dance duo have single-handedly saved dance floors everywhere with their fresh, funky rhythms and experimental styles that have catapulted dance music into its next avatar. Their tunes have set the dance floors ablaze and have even set televisions sizzling with a number of their songs being used in commercials- truly Basement Jaxx have come to take over.
Basement Jaxx consists of Simon Ratcliffe and Felix Buxton who came together in 1994 in an effort to bring the House music trend of America to life in London. In order to accomplish that, the duo were aiming to cut a number of tracks that could be played at parties which they would organize. Little did these boys know that they would soon be redefining dance music as we knew it. At the time, the dance scene had stagnated with deejays becoming lazy in their cutting and mixing and promoters being too money minded in order to allow any real talent to come to the fore.
It was under these circumstances that Basement Jaxx began spinning their stuff at their own club, Rooty, which later would be the name for their second album. In 1999 the duo released their very first studio effort Remedy, which was met with much commercial and critical acclaim. The single 'Red Alert' from the album was later used in a Coke commercial and the band also released another album of remixes that same year. Basement Jaxx truly made their mark with the release of their album Rooty which spawned the world wide hit 'Where's Your Head At?'
The duo came of age with the release of their third album Kish Kash which was infused with many more musical elements such as soul, funk, R&B and punk. The duo focused more on songwriting and even roped in the vocal talents of stars like Siouxsie Sioux, Dizee Rascal and Lisa Kekaula. The album is a laudable effort that stretches the boundaries of dance music, offering a complex and intriguing musical amalgam that has set the Basement Jaxx boys miles ahead of the competition.
