Beenie Man is a famous and very respected DJ from Jamaica. He has had a hugely successful music career. His career dates back to 1981. He began to gain popularity and an ardent fan base during the 90's and by the years 1994, his reputation was almost invincible. This prodigal artist began recording when he was just 10 years old.
Beenie Man was born as Moses Davis on 22nd August, 1973 in Kingston, Jamaica. He decided very early on in his life that he wanted to be a DJ. His first success store came when he was only 8 years old, he won the National Tenny Talent Contest. Here he was encountered by producer Junjo Lawes. Lawes produced his debut single, "Too Fancy" This was followed by an appearance on Junjo's, "Two Big Sounds." The album was recorded live and included DJ big wigs like Dillinger and Fathead. As a 10 year old, he had a hit single, "Over the Sea" and a debut album, "The Invincible Beenie Man." He followed these by recording some material in 1984 with Berrington Levy.
He was now working with Jamaica's top producers and recorded many popular singles. He released two albums of compilations in 1994 titled, "Defend It" and "Dis Unu Fi." Beenie received the DJ of the Year award in 1994. He signed on to Island Records and released the album, "Blessed." It included the smash hit, "Slam." In 1995, he collaborated with other DJ's and artists and came out with some interesting tracks. His albums are, "Three Against War" "Beenie Man meets Mad Cobra."
The year 1996 saw the release of his first "REAL" album. The album was a huge hit. And was followed by Reggae Sunsplash in 1998. He signed up with Virgin Records in the US. The first release that resulted from this partnership was "Doctor."He returned in 1999 with the Y2K album which highlighted the greatest feat of the new millennium, the Y2K bug. The new century saw the release of "Art & Life" album which included many guest artists like Arturo Sandoval and Wyclef Jean of the Fugees.
