Ben Folds is a prominent pianist and singer. He was born on 12th September, 1966 in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Ben Folds is most prominently known as the member of the trio Ben Fold's Five. He has recently also embarked on a solo career.

He was a member of many band in his younger days but he really found success when he became the bassist of the band - Majsha. Folds then re-located to New York and started acting. He has some prior acting theater experience. He also signed up with Sony Music. He eventually moved back to North Carolina and formed his own band, Ben Fold's Five in 1994. The band were a refreshing change from the type of music that was hitting the charts then. The band consisted of Ben Fold, bassist Robert Sledge and drummer Derren Jessee.

The band soon enough signed up with the local independent label, North Carolina Records. The Ben Fold's Five released their debut album the following year. The band was starting to make a name for itself by the time its second album "Whatever And Ever Amen" was issued by Epic Records. The band kept improving its music and songwriting skills. The created wonderful numbers like, "One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces," "Fair," "Kate," and "Battle of Who Could Care Less."

But the band really hit it big with the ballad "Brick." It was a huge commercial success and the band went on tour with established artists like Dave Matthews, Beck, and as part of the H.O.R.D.E. 1997 festival. Fold tried his hand at a solo career. His album "Volume 1" was released but didn't create any buzz. But its single "In Love" got some recognition for including the vocals of William Shatner.
