Ben Harper is a celebrated artist and has build a strong fan following in a short period. His music combines the elements of classic singer/songwriters, blues revivalists, Jimi Hendrix, and '90s jam bands like Blues Traveler, Hootie & the Blowfish, and Phish. This has created a fan base ranges from critics to college kids.

Ben Harper is from California and got his inspiration from listening to blues, folk, soul, R&B, and reggae. He started playing the guitar from a very young age and also began performing. He began playing the acoustic guitar as he entered his adolescence years. He signed a record deal with Virgin in 1992 and released his debut album. "Welcome to the Cruel World."

His next album was released in 1995 and was titled, "Fight for Your Mind" which got great reviews and. His third album "The Will To Live" was released in 1997, and the album became a bug radio hit. The following year was spent touring in support of the album. This time was also saw the introduction of Harper's support band, "The Innocent Criminals." The band included bassist Juan Nelson, drummer Dean Butterworth, and percussionist David Leach.

Harper also built ties with other artists and collaborated with many of them, aprt from working on his own material. Some appearances include guest spots on records by Beth Orton, John Lee Hooker, and Government Mule. Harper released his fifth album, "Diamonds on the Inside" in 2003.
