Billy Joel is one of the legendary artist who emerged as the most convincing singer/songwriters of the '70s era. He always enjoyed the musical rhythms by Beatlesque hooks and Tin Pan Alley, while also taking inspiration from the Broadway melodies. The years 70's and 80's led his way to the stardom , as the artist received an overwhelming response from the audience all across the world. This was the time when most of his albums including several hit singles became multi-platinum, making him the superstar of the music industry.

His upbringing was done in the Long Island suburb of Hicksville. Over here he took his piano lessons when he was just a child. When he grew up, Joel got indulged in the street gangs and boxing activities. His boxing passion won him as many 22 fights when he was a teenager. It was during one of his fights that he fractured his nose. However, his musical aspirations took shape when he saw the legendary group Beatles on some TV show in the year of 1964. This made him think to take music as a serious career for himself. Soon , the great musician joined the Echoes which eventually became one of the most like New York attractions. This was the time when there was no looking back for him, and decided to pursue his career in music.

Billy Joel struggled like any other artist in the initial years of his struggle. But later on he was amongst the top most artists, making a history in the music industry. Echoes changed its name twice in the year of 1965, first as Emaralds and then as Lost Souls. But, just after two years Joel left the band and joined yet another group Hassels. Hassles was a product of local Long Island rock& roll band which was made to sign a record deal with the United Artists Records. However, band's bonding also came to an end in the year of 1969. This led to the formation of Atilia, a band which was formed in co-ordination with Joel and former band's drummer Jon Small.

His musical career can be described as one, which was a series of failures in the beginning. It was just because of his strong personality and effective rhythms that made him popular singing star of the audience. The talented artist signed a record deal in the year of 1971 with Family Productions. This label came out with Joel's another album "Ripp For Life," which became a considerable hit, followed by his full-length debut album "Spring Harbor" in November 1971.

Some more artistry works done by him were 1980's album Glass Houses which became very popular in the mainstream music industry. The album retained its existence for nearly six weeks on the American music charts. Some of its hit singles include "You May Be Right" (number seven), "It's Still Rock'n'Roll to Me" (number one), "Don't Ask Me Why" (number 19), and "Sometimes a Fantasy" (number 36). The legendary artist also won a Grammy Awardfor Best Rock Vocal Performance (Male) in the year of 1981. Apart from all these events, he took also recorded a live album in the Attic, in 1977. Billy Joel became really famous for this album all over world with some of the smashing hit numbers such as "Say Goodbye to Hollywood," followed by "She's Got a Way" which made their way towards Top 40 Musical charts.
