Music is one thing which is never possessed or bought its one thing which god gifted. And very few are blessed with this gift and Craig Chaquico is one of them. Craig Chaquico is an American guitarist born on 25th September 1954 in Sacramento, California. He is the one musician who has had over thirty years of success in various genres whether it is 1970s post-Summer of Love Jefferson Starship or 1980s Journey-influenced Starship or even 1990s and 2000s smooth jazz. It is said that music was in his genes as he started playing the guitar as a young boy and by the age of 14 was playing professionally in nightclubs.
This shows the potential he carried. Seeing his immense talent Paul Kantner of the Jefferson Airplane invited him to join him for a series of recording sessions and concerts. At that time the Airplane members were Grateful Dead, Quicksilver Messenger Service and Crosby, Stills and Nash. Therein he got the chance of playing alongside a number of legendary musicians including Jerry Garcia, David Crosby, David Freiberg and Carlos Santana. Soon he packed his bags and was on world tour. In 1971 he recorded his with Kantner and Grace Slick on their Sunfighter duo album.
But his tour was left in the middle as he has to re-join the school thus he left his newly named band Jefferson Starship. But soon in 1972 he was again approached by Grace Slick and Kantner to re-join the band. And this time he wasn't able to refuse. After joining the band they toured various cities and released several albums but their joy was short lived as Kantner left the band and the group was renamed as Starship. Even after the break up people still remember his guitar riffs from "We Built This City" number and also his flowing long brown hair in the featured video. After the break up Craig started working as a Smooth Jazz/New Age guitarist. In 1993 he partnered Ozzie Ahlers for his ten solo albums. But the famous of the lot is his second album titled Acoustic Planet released in 1994. This album won him the Grammy Nomination for Best New Age album. And now he is known for his Smooth Jazz/New Age music.
Apart from that he also worked with various incarnations of Jefferson Starship; furthermore he continuously worked for the last 25 years as a studio musician accompanying array of artists, such as Commander Cody, Mickey Thomas and Tom Scott.
