aniel Edward Aykroyd CM (born July 1, 1952) is an Academy Award-nominated Canadian comedian, actor, screenwriter and musician. He was an original cast member of Saturday Night Live, an originator of the Blues Brothers, and has had a long career as a film actor and screenwriter. He was awarded an Emmy for his writing on the "Saturday Night Live" show starring Sissy Spacek and received a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist 1979 for the triple platinum selling "Briefcase Full Of Blues" record album, which he recorded with the late John Belushi.
Daniel Edward Aykroyd was born on 1st July 1952 to strict Roman Catholic Parents in Ottawa, Canada. His father was an eminent civil engineer and often used corporal punishment to discipline his son.The Canadian-born actor has enjoyed a three-decades long career in the entertainment business, starting as a writer and performer on his local cable access station in 1970. He originated the show with his then partner Valri Bromfield. The program was 15 minutes long and titled "Change For A Quarter." Dan Aykroyd appeared in many blockbuster films such as "Ghostbusters", "The Blues Brothers", "Spies Like Us", "Driving Miss Daisy", "Trading Places" etc.
He was known for his impersonations of celebrities like Jimmy Carter (where the President talked someone down from a bad acid trip by telling them to listen to some Allman Brothers), Richard Nixon, Julia Child (in an oft-replayed sketch where she cannot stop bleeding after cutting herself while cooking), Tom Snyder, and others. His credits steadily and rapidly increased, and Aykroyd was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his part in 'Driving Miss Daisy'. He is still a common sight on movie screens today.
