We all remember Dana Reeve as the wife of the wildly popular star Christopher Reeve who essayed the role of superman magnificently in many blockbuster films. The talented Dana Reeve was born on February 19, 1961 and was a famous American singer, actress, and activist for disability causes. She was born as Dana Charles Morosini in the beautiful place of Teaneck, New Jersey to a cardiologist father Charles Morosini, and Helen Simpson Morosini, her mother.
Dana spent her early childhood in the town of Greenburgh, New York; there she attended the famous Edgemont High School. She graduated cum laude from Middlebury College in Vermont in year 1984 in English Literature.She spent junior years of her studies at the well known Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, England. Dana later went on to pursue additional graduate studies in the stream of acting at the renowned California Institute of the Arts. Dana along with her husband the very famous Christopher Reeve received honorary Doctorates of Humane Letters in year 2004 from Middlebury.
Dana had married Christopher Reeve in year 1992 at Williamstown, Massachusetts in the month of April. They had one child, whom they named William Elliot Reeve fondly called will. He was born in 1992 on the June 7.Dana was pushed into a social role after her husband, Christopher became a quadriplegic as a consequence of horse riding accident on May 27, 1995 in Culpeper, Virginia. Dana then went on to become a motivational speaker and a leading activist for the quality of life of the paralyzed. Soon after her husband's death, she also became a supporter of the much controversial research on human embryonic stem cell.
In the year 1996, the Reeve couple founded the well known Christopher Reeve Foundation. This foundation funds research on paralysis in addition to that it works to improve the living of the disabled. At a later stage the name of the foundation changed due a merger. In year 2005, the name again was changed from Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation to its previous merger name Christopher Reeve Foundation. To date, the foundation has awarded more than $55 million as research grants and more than $8 million as grants for improving the quality of life for many.
It was Dana's idea to create fund raiser jewelry and costumes for the Foundation. In the year 2005, in honor of her late husband she put a play on the Superman character for which he was most famous which resulted in large gains for the foundation.
After her husband's death in 2004, Dana assumed the responsibilities of the chairperson of the foundation. Today she is no more to run the noble cause. So we should all step further.
