The Dandy Warhol originated from Portland, Oregon. Its members include Courtney Taylor who is on lead vocals, the talented Zia McCabe on the keyboard, the remarkable Peter Loew and Eric Hedford who does the drums. When the multifaceted Hedford left in 1998, the irresistible Brent De Boer replaced him on the drums. The band's interesting name is derived from a play on the name of the famous pop artist Andy Warhol.The Warhols have always been strongly influenced by musical styles of The Velvet Underground and other bands including the likes of The Rolling Stones. They also include implicit music pointers to the legendary Jethro Tull in some of their songs. The lead singer Courtney goes on to describe the band's initial beginning to a desire of playing music by a group of friends. This desire has since propelled them to remarkable heights. The band started by performing various live shows in different bars throughout Portland area and went on to release their first album titled "Dandy's Rule OK?"

This was released in 1995 and unfortunately the album was quite largely ignored. However it influenced Capitol Records to sign the band. Though the album had been a mediocre success; it did have some of the best material released by the band. The band first chance at success occurred in Europe after they managed to release their second record. The hit single titled "Not If You Were" proved a chartbuster in many countries and was popular across the continent. Following the successful release of the compilation titled "Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia" which was released in the year 2000, the band instantly gained a firm and huge fan base in the popular college radio scene. They also managed to garner critical acclaim and slowly got mainstream recognition. The delightful song "Bohemian like You" was a huge hit in the UK and subsequently was used in a successful Vodafone advertising campaign.

Currently the band is experimenting with its music. In 2003 it released "Welcome to the Monkey House" which also became a huge draw with fans. They are good at mixing an eighties synth-rock style sound with hard-edged guitar sound. Their experiments have won critical acclaim for its suave polish, panache, and the band's overwhelming capacity to reinvent itself.
