Daniel Libeskind is an architect who rocketed to fame in the year 2003 after receiving a charge to create the master plan for the rebuilding of the famous World Trade Center. Daniel was born on May 12, 1946 in a place called Lódz, Poland.
Listed among one of the leading modern architects of times, Libeskind is the son of Holocaust survivors. He became a naturalized citizen of United States in the year 1965. He is the most famous alumnus of the batch of year 1965 of the Bronx High School of Science. Daniel also studied music in Israel(pursuing the American Israel Cultural Foundation Scholarship) and went on to become an expert accordion performer before hew went on to pursue an architecture degree in one of the most prestigious institutions of New York City, Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. This was in the year 1970. In the year 1972, Daniel graduated from famous Essex University at England with a postgraduate degree in Theory of Architecture and History. Ever since the year 1989 Daniel has lived in Berlin with his family which consists of his wife Nina, who is the daughter of David Lewis, previous Canadian federal New Democratic Party leader, along with their three children.
His architecture style is unique and very attention attracting, he uses a language of intersecting geometries, skewed angles, shards and punctured lines to convey feelings of absence, loss. His specialty has been designing museums and galleries.
Apart from his unique and renowned architectural projects, Daniel has also worked in the theatre, where he created set designs for opera. Daniel created the sets for famous 2001 production of Tristan und Isolde at Saarländisches Staats Theater. The next year he designed sets for the production of Messiaen's Saint Francis of Assisi in Berlin. Daniel has also ventured into writing territory by writing free verse poetry which was included in his much talked about book "fishing from the Pavement".
Numerous of Mr. Libeskind's projects are at present under construction, these include: the Museum Residences in Denver, Colorado; the Extension to the Denver Art Museum, Denver, Colorado; Westside, the biggest shopping and wellness center in the whole of Europe in Bern, Switzerland and many many more.
Libeskind has lectured and taught at many universities around the world. He has the distinction of holding some of the most coveted positions like the Frank O. Gehry Chair at the University of Toronto. Daniel has also received plentiful awards, including the year 2001 Hiroshima Art Prize which is awarded to an artist whose work promotes worldwide peace and understanding. This was the first time that this award is given to an architect. Apart from these he has many more awards under his belt.
