Daniela Mercury was born in the Salvador area of Bahia in Brazil on the 28th July 1965.She was born to a father who was of Portuguese descend from Braga and her mother was Italian descended. The musical styles she is proficient in ranges from primarily MPB, Pop and axe music. She incidentally was very strongly influenced by the popular tropicalismo movement. Her delectable music is driven primarily by insistent percussion and is marked by frequent local references. Her forte is MPB which stands for Musica Popular Brasileira which means "Brazilian Popular Music". This form of music is a musical version of Brazilian music that essentially combines' traditional elements of Brazilian urban music styles including the like samba with more interesting contemporary pop and pointed rock influences. Signifying what basically is more than simply the sum of these styles, MPB is quite a contemporary trend that put forward many renowned and talented Brazilian artists.

Daniela has had a long and illustrious career. Her first album was a big hit with the audiences in Brazil. Next her second album titled O Canto da Cidade went on to sell over 2 million copies was her greatest hit till date. This remarkable album continues to be sold even today. Her next albums include the "Musica de Rua" and the popular "Feijao com Arroz" was successfully released in the year 1994 and 1997. Next year she released her first live recorded album, from the popular series titled MTV Ao Vivo. It was quite a success and was able to receive the gold certification just in its second week. Apart from being a singer she is a prominent activist for social causes. She took part in a highly successful government campaign to prevent AIDS and other diseases during the renowned 2005 Carnival celebrations in Brazil.
