The story of Dark Lotus isn't that long but it already is rife with much mystery and drama. Soon after Twiztid joined the Psychopathic record label, Insane Clown Posse, Blaze Ya Dead Homie and Twiztid initially got together to form Dark Lotus. This was around 1999 and word quickly began to spread among the Juggalo community about a new group that was set to take Insane Clown Posse to the next level, a group that would be ten times more ruthless, vile and wicked than what they had ever heard.

Needless to say curiosity was peaked and soon the Juggalos were able to hear their first sample of Dark Lotus on an Insane Clown Posse number called 'Echoside' which appeared on the Insane Clown Posse album The Amazing Jeckel Brothers. The single did very well among the Juggalos and it was later released that the Dark Lotus would have six petals or members. It is here that a large amount of speculation and confusion arose. Four core members were already in place- Violent J, Shaggy 2 Dope, Jamie Madrox and the Monoxide Child. Initially Blaze Ya Dead Homie was announced as the fifth member but he suddenly left the label, causing Esham the Unholy to take his place. However another shuffle would happen with Blaze Ya Dead Homie returning and Esham being kicked out.

Now it was time to speculate who the sixth member would be. Rumored contenders were Vampiro, who appeared on the 'Maniac Killa' track and Anybody Killa, who appeared on 'Drunken Ninja Master'. In the end, a relatively unknown rapper called Marz was called in and the group began to work on their first album. However drama hit Dark Lotus again when Marz quit the group- though no kind of differences were cited, Marz did release a single called "The Real Dark Lotus' and Violent J hit back later with a dissing rhyme. Though the debut album had already been released to the Juggalos some time ago, the album was re-done with Anybody Killa rapping over Marz's parts- many Juggalos are divided as to which was better.
