Are you ready to hear a rock-n-roll legend perform live, a man who was part of one of the most influential rock bands of the century and who carved a niche for himself as one of rock's great guitarists? Then get in gear and grab your tickets to see Dave Davies live in concert. This former guitarist for the Kinks still does a number of live shows today and people have been flocking to see this rock-n-roll legend rock again.
Davies is probably best known as one of the founding members of the legendary British band The Kinks. Though it would eventually be his brother Ray who would garner more public attention, it was in fact Davies along with bassist Peter Quaife that founded the band in 1963. The Kinks would go on to be one of the most influential bands of the British Invasion. Though they never attained the level of popularity of bands like The Who and The Rolling Stones, their sound was one of the most distinct and creative and continues to be popular today. The Kinks first rose to popularity with the release of their single 'You Really Got Me' after which the band had sporadic phases of high critical and commercial success. The band was seen by many to be a troubled one, as the Kinks were also famous for the number of internal squabbles and fights that occurred between the band and the industry.
Davies was a party to many of these squabbles- he never got along well with drummer Mick Avory and is seen to be the main reason behind Avory's departure in the eighties. Davies also had a very tense relationship with his brother Ray. Despite all these problems, Davies was able to make some truly memorable music, both with The Kinks and as a solo artist. He released his first solo efforts in the eighties when The Kinks were experiencing a revival and has been steadily releasing records ever since.
Though Davies played an admirable role as songwriter and singer, he is perhaps best remembered as a path-breaking and highly innovative guitarist. One of his most famous contributions lies in the crunching power chords and buzz riffs that appear on the track 'You Really Got Me'. Davies explains that he created that sound by slitting the speaker cones of his amplifier with a razor blade or knitting needles.
Davies suffered a stroke in 2004 which prevents him from touring. However he is still able to perform, though he can no longer play guitar and sing at the same time. Ray Davies has also revealed that the band may get together to record one more Kinks album some time in the future. Make sure you catch this rock legend when he performs live- get to your online ticket vendor and order your tickets to see Dave Davies live in concert.
