Come see the King of Surfer Rock and a pioneering exponent of electric guitar take to the stage and work his magic- come get your tickets to see Dick Dale live in concert. Dale is the original grand-daddy of rock and roll guitar as we know it, influencing such guitar wizards as Eddie Wan Halen and even Jimi Hendrix himself.

Dale was born to a Lebanese father and a Polish mother. At a very early age he began to experiment with music, learning to play the drums and the ukulele before he picked up his first guitar. It is important to note that one of his most powerful and early musical influences was his uncle who played the oud for belly dance music. Dale would be one of the very first musicians to incorporate middle-eastern sounds into his music and was one of the first to use exotic and unusual scales while playing guitar. This would be one of the many firsts that Dale would achieve with the electric guitar.

Next to guitar, Dale soon discovered what would be his other real passion in life- surfing. Dale was so overwhelmed with the experience he had while surfing that he wanted to somehow translate that energy and spirit into his guitar. It is in this way that we can say that Surf Rock was truly born. Dale would bring a number of innovations to his electric guitar playing that would hence become the distinguishing aspects of Surfer Rock. The main feature was the reverb which has now become a foundational aspect of the genre. Dale also began develop a unique picking method which was characterized by its speed and staccato sound.

It is also interesting to note that Dale was left-handed, like his disciple Hendrix. When forced to play a right-handed guitar, Dale managed to play it perfectly without even restringing it, a method that Hendrix used when playing a right-handed guitar. This helped Dale in playing the guitar upside down.

Backed by his band called the Del-Tones, Dale soon became a huge hit on the music scene, churning out the first ever surfer tune in 1961 called ' Let's Go Trippin''. The band had a number of follow-up tunes which made them immensely popular on the local music scene. Unfortunately the surfer rock phenomenon was soon nipped out by the British Invasion and Dale was soon pushed out of the spotlight.

After battling cancer and retiring from music for a while, Dale returned to the stage, putting up a number of performances and cutting some albums. He attained a cult status of sorts when Quentin Tarantino sampled one of his numbers ' Misirlou' in the movie Pulp Fiction. It would later be used by The Black Eyed Peas in the song 'Pump it'.
