Native of Aden,Yemen, Edward John Izzard was born on February 7, 1962 is a famous British comedian and actor posessing a unique style of cross-dressing and dreamlike monologue. Izzard describes himself as an "executive" or "action" transvestite.
He is famous for his cross-dressing and distinct pauses during the performances. These things has become the trademark of Izzard now. In addition to all these distinct references, he is a skilled mime artist and sometimes makes fun of his own mimes. In his shows he plays various characters himself.
He studied at Eastbourne college. In 1968, after demise of his mother when he was just 6 years old, he found himself consoled with comedy. Inspired from Richard Pryor, and the early Benny Hill and other artists, he started to toy his stand-up at college only. After being kicked out from school he tried his luck and performance in streets. Eddie got a great experience and favour from street performance in Europe and US. He tried his talent by appearing for the first time at The Comedy Store in London in 1987. he polished himself with perfection in his talent and obtained some recognition too.
Gaining a perfection by his stand-up work , Eddie made hi first stage performance in London's West End for Live at the Ambassadors as a one-man comedy show. This outstanding performance bagged him British Comedy Awards & Olivier Award nomination. By attaining fame by his stand-up shows he had firest break with the big-screen debut in "The Secret Agent" with other artists in 1996. The same year he bagged another British Comedy Award for his one-man show "Definite Article". He toured the major cities like New York outside UK stand-up with "Definite Article " and returned to West End with Glorious, a new show created in New York. Though Izzard worked in many films like David Mamet's 'The Cryptogram", "900 Oneonta" but he had a real recognition after his show "Dress to Kill" broad casted on HBO in 1999. This show earned him two Emmy Awards in 2000 for writing and performance. His latest appearance in the movies "Ocean's Thirteen" (2007) as Roman Nagel "Across the Universe" (2006) as Mr Kite, "My Super Ex-Girlfriend" (2006) as Professor Bedlam is highly appraised for his comic role.
Izzard's various appearances include the TV shows "The Henry Rollins Show" (2006), "Last Call with Carson Daly" (2005), "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" (2002 and 2004), "Pythonland (1999) - BBC ,"Tales from the Crypt "(1996) - HBO; movies like "Ocean's Twelve" ,"Romance & Cigarettes", "Circus" (2000), "The Criminal" (1999).
Eddie provided the voice over for promoting recycling for the British government's series of television ads. He played the piano accompaniment for the song "Vienna" while performing with Scottish musician Midge Ure at Live8 in Edinburgh, Scotland. " The riches", a drama series co-written by Izzard is announced for the production by U.S television network F/X in 2006. Izzard is starring in this series with British actress Minnie Driver alongwith Wayne and Dahlia Malone. The series is ready to premiere in the spring of 2007.
Being engaged in campaigning work, as a famous pro-European Union Campaigner, he is supporting the further integration of the UK into the union. For his campaigning & support,he received "Doctor of Letters" by the University of East Anglia, England & University of Sheffield. He was one of the first to spend a Euro in London. He regularly performs in French and sometimes in German too.
