Ekoostik Hookah is termed as the nucleus of the psychedelic rock 'n' roll, blues, funk, jazz and bluegrass. They are known for their lucid, improvisational treatment and rich harmonies. This band made a banging entry to the music arena in 1991 while playing in a smoky basement bar. However, playing in a smoky basement bar was not their aim as they want to move ahead in life that too with full swing. Ekoostik Hookah is the continuous evolving band that has created the sounds which are soothing for the ears and has also attracted thousands of fans round the globe. Till now the band is on tour and have explored various places and increased their fan list. All their concerts were complete sold out and till now people tend to book their tickets well in advance so that they can witness this band's memorable performance. Talking about their past this band hails from Ohio and they began their music career in a weekly open-mic nights.

At that time band members such as vocalist/keyboardist Dave Katz, lead guitarist Steve Sweney, bassist Cliff Starbuck and guitarist/vocalist John Mullins were into fulltime music with various popular bands. Finally they all decided to come together and make their own independent band. This was the time when Ekoostik Hookah came into being. After playing at few clubs and pubs band decided to make a grand entry to music arena. Before their debut to the music they were joined by Drummer Eric Lanese in 1993. Ekoostik Hookah then decided to tour various small cities and towns so that their popularity increases to a great extent. They toured to almost 30 states at venues including New York's Wetlands Preserve, Chicago's House of Blues, Cleveland's Nautica Stage, Atlanta's Variety Playhouse, Boulder's Fox Theater and San Francisco's Great American Music Hall. In 1997 they got the major breakthrough when they were invited to play at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

But it was in June 1999 when they played their first international shows in Negril, Jamaica. After that the band moved to Amsterdam, Netherlands where they played at three shows. In the mean time Ekoostik Hookah released their eight albums titled: Under Full Sail (1991), Dubbahbuddah (1994), an untitled, two-disc live set (1996), Where the Fields Grow Green (1998), Hookahville Spring '98 (1998), Sharp in the Flats (1999), Seahorse (2001) and Ohio Grown (2002).
