Eliades Ochoa is a very famous guitarist and singer belonging to Cuba. He was born on 22nd June 1946, in Songo La Maya. Eliades Ochoa began playing guitar at the tender age of six and in 1978 joined the band by the name of Cuarteto Patria.

His music is rooted in Cuban country music called guajira and till date wears his trademark cowboy hat. He plays tres and variant called cuatro with two more strings. He acquired lot of international acclaim and fame through his association with the Buena Vista Social Club. He sang the opening track of the album of Chan Chan and Wim Winder's filmof same name. Eliades Ochoa a singer and composer was born in rural environment. Over the years and through his brilliant music he has established the reputation of being the most important soneros of Cuba of all times as well as an outstanding player and defender of the traditional music of Cuba. Since 1958 he has been living at Santiago de Cuba City. It is the city where Ochoa pursued his artistic career. From very young age he had established his proficiency in playing guitar and tres. Soon he also acquired the qualities of a vocalist and showcased them through the interpretation of many kinds of traditional Cuban music like Boleros, Sones, Guajiras and Guarachas.

Eliades Ochoa inaugurated his professional career in the 1960's. He first joined Oriental Quintet and later made an entry in Típico Septet.. He joined his current band Patria Quartet as singer and director in 1978. In 1986 he got a chance to share a recording with the famous and leading singer of Cuba Francisco Repilado who is famous as Compay Segundo, 'El Chan Chan'. In 1989 both the great singers made different presentations in Dominican Republic, Guadalupe and Washington. In 1997 he associated himself with Buena Vista Social Club record which was winner of Grammy Award.

Eliades Ochoa has been to as many as 40 countries. He has recorded disks titles which have great significance for Cuban music. These were Son de Oriente', 'Chanchaneando' with Compay Segundo. With Divango a famous saxophonist from Camerún he recoded 'La venganza de Perico. With North American Bob Dylan he had the continental record 'El Guateque de Don Tomás'. His most famous theme has been the 'Píntate los labios María' and the clip created by Frank Padrón won different Lucas Prizes.

Eliades Ochoa isnt' there by chance. Today he has specialized in Guarachas. He has been with his band Cuarteto Patria for over 28 years now and their association have given many magical and superb concerts. He has recorded two albums with Cuarteto Patria. In 1993 he recorded 'A Una Coqueta ' and in 1998 'Cubafrica'. His contribution to Buena Vista Social Club of Ry Cooder enhanced his mainstream prominence. In 1999 he released his second solo album called 'Sublime Illusion' . For the album he collaborated with Cooder and Cuarteto Patria. His other releases were 'Son de Santiago' and 'Cuarteto Patria'. In 2000 his two albums were released 'Eliades Ochoa y el Cuarteto Patria' and 'Cuidadito Compay Gallo'. While in 2001 he released 'Estoy Como Nunca'.
