Elvis the Concert came into existence when Elvis Presley Enterprises in the mid 1990 began to experiment with his live recording concerts. Soon the Enterprise learnt that by utilizing multi tracking they were able to delete all the other ambient noise from the recording and in the end only Elvis's voice was left. The enterprise came up with idea of a special concert which was held on 16th August, 1997. Which was also the the twentieth death anniversary of Elvis Presley. The show saw his original back-up band of 1970 along with his back-up singers like J.D. Sumner & the Stamps Quartet, Millie Kirkham, The Imperials, Kathy Westmoreland and The Sweet Inspirations. The show took place at Memphis, Tennessee's Mid-South Coliseum. The show also featured his daughter singing a duet with her father in the song "Don't Cry Daddy." The concert was a smash hit and was covered by worldwide press. The success of the show prompted Elvis Presley Enterprises to conduct more concerts in future.

In 1998 Elvis the Concert was taken on a world tour. The musicians in the show were Jerry Scheff on fender bass, keyboards by Ron Feuer, lead guitar by James Burton, drums by Ronnie Tutt and piano by Glen Hardin. The orchestra organizer was Joe Guercio. The back up vocals were Estelle Brown, Myrna Smith, Portia Brown from The Sweet Inspirations, 0 Terry Blackwood, Joe Mosecho, Sherman Andrus from The Stamps Quartet and The Imperials.
The concert was conceived by Randy Johnson, Stig Edgren, Todd Morgan and Joe Guercio.

The format of the concert starts with Richard Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra the traditional opening theme of Elvis' concerts. The show is divided in two distinct acts. The duration of each act is generally between 45 minutes to one hour along with an intermission. The main material utilized in the concerts comes from 'Elvis: That's the Way it is", "Elvis on Tour" and 'Aloha from Hawaii". During the show one can see a large video screen hanging above the main set where the video of Elvis' performance is shown. While two smaller screens
are seen hanging on either side and video of the musicians performing in the concert. The fist act generally come to an end with a gospel music segment.

The show comes to an end with his traditional show closer "Can't Help Falling in Love" along with the traditional announcement of "Elvis has Left the Building.". However in the concerts of 1997 and 2002 ex announcer Al Dvorin ended the concert by saying "Elvis has left for Graceland". The 2002 concert which marked his 25th Death Anniversary took place in Memphis, TN at the Pyramid arena. The show was more bigger compared to the 20th anniversary concert, and had three different acts. The first act exhibited his career between 1956 to 1968. While the 2nd and 3rd act were in the same format as the "Elvis the Concert".
