Emerson Hart is a multi talented artist being a guitarist, songwriter, vocalist and producer. He belongs to South Orange, New Jersey, born on 21st July, 1969. Hart has written and performed some very famous and successful songs and contributed to some award winning works also.

Emerson Hart apart from being an independent artist has also been associated for many years with the Tonic band. It was Emerson who formed this band in 1993 along with his childhood friend and guitarist Jeff Russo. The other members of the band were drummer Kevin Shepard and bassist Dan Rothchild. In 1995 Tonic was signed by Atlas Records and Polydor. The band in its initial years only tasted lot of success. Their debut album 'Lemon Parade' was released in 1996. The album became a multi-platinum selling album. It featured such hit songs like '"Open Up Your Eyes' and 'If You Could Only See'. The song 'If You Could Only See' became staple for the radio and in 1997 it became the rock song played maximum number of times. The same year Tonic recorded a song for the movie 'Scream 2'. In 1998 bassist Dan Rothchild was replaced by Dan Lavery. With Lavery band released EP 'Live and Enhanced'. In 1998 they also recorded songs for some more movies like 'Clay Pigeons' and 'The X-Files'.

1999 saw the release of Tonic's second album titled 'Sugar'. The singles in the album ' You Wanted More' and ' Knock Down Walls' were major hits. The song 'You Wanted More' first appeared on American Pie movie soundtrack. But the 'Sugar' was recorded by only three members of the band as drummer Kevin Shepard had already said goodbye to the band. Peter Maloney replaced him on the drums. Their band's third album was called 'Head on Straight'. The drums in the album were played by Joey Waronker along with taking the help of Will Holis the keyboardist. The song in the album 'Take Me as I Am' was another hit on the radio.

However the Tonic's most memorable moment came in 2003 after receiving two Grammy nominations. One for Best Rock Album and the other for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for 'Take Me As I Am'. In 2004 the band took a well deserved and needed from recording and touring.

Emerson Hart apart from contributing to Tonic also works as an independent artist. In 2002 the song 'Generation'
for the TV show 'American Dreams' on NBC was written and performed by Hart. The song won an ASCAP award for Best Theme Song-Television. In 2004 Hart embarked on for writing songs for his first solo album. In whole of 2005 Emerson Hart was involved recording his new album in New Orleans and Nashville. His co-producers are personalities like Mike Napolitano and Jason Lehning, a Grammy award winner. This debut album is said to be released in the late summer of 2006. Hart for the success of the album can heavily depend on the large fan base of Tonic and their loyalty towards the commercial radio. Hart has plans to go on tours before the release of the album. Hart apart from being a solo artist and member of Tonic is also involved in other projects as well. He is co-writing with some established artist and other fine songwriter from Nashville.
