Fiona Apple was born and brought up in New York in 1977. She is the daughter of a singer Diana McAfee and the famous movie actor Brandon Maggard. Fiona's inclination towards music made her a rising star of the mid-90's. She took musical lessons and started playing guitar at a very young age of eight. In 1995, she signed a record deal with Sony Music just after she left her high school studies.

When her parents were separated from each other, she left the high school at the age of 16 and traveled to Los Angeles. Over here, she stayed with her father and released several demo-tapes of her songs. As a songwriter she is considered as one of the outstanding female artist of her times. Initial years were pretty hard for her as she used to compose her own songs. It was only after couple of months that her demo tapes were passed by Sony Music.

Her album "Tidal" which was released in mid-1996 was produced by Andrew Slater. The album was a considerable hit across the country. She even went touring at several places. Tidal was appreciate by the audiences in great numbers and climbed the musical charts instantly.
