What sets them apart is their amazing energy, exciting and power that set the audience in fire and rocking. Before forming the band they have already achieved tremendous success and praise in their own careers. They have already treated the audience with their own individual sets of guitars before the influential guitarists have joined forces on the same stage. The G3 first toured in the year 1996 and their first tour was so successful that it has since been certified platinum. In 1997, they also performed with Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Robert Fripp to the bill. In May 1998 the tour headed over to Europe where Satriani was joined by Uli Jon Roth and former Scorpions guitarist Michael Schenker. The 2001 G3 tour featured the team of Satriani and Vai again, this time adding John Petrucci of Dream Theater.
Steve Vai was born on 6th , 1960 in Long Island, New York. His real name was Steven Siro. He made his name by playing 'stunt guitar' with the legendary rock performer, composer, music producer, and publishing mogul Frank Zappa. In the early 80's he replaced Yngwie Malmsteen (a good friend) as lead guitarist in Graham Bonnett's Alcatrazz. Then he joined former Van Halen front man David Lee Roth's group to record the albums Eat 'em and Smile and Skyscraper. Vai also stepped into guitarist Adrian Vandenberg's shoes to record with British rock legends Whitesnake (after Adrian Vandenberg injured his wrist due to some exercises he found in a book and tried out) shortly before recording was due to begin for the album Slip of the Tongue. Steve Vai's music has featured in a number of feature films, including Dudes, Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey and Ghosts of Mars. He appeared onscreen in the 1986 Ralph Macchio vehicle Crossroads, playing the demoniacally-inspired Jack Butler. He also owns 'Favored Nations', a recording and publishing business which specializes in looking after both newly discovered and already high profile recording artists from around the world. He is married to Pia, former bassist of All-Female Group 'Vixen', and has two children, Julian Angel & Fire. He enjoys keeping bees, which regularly produce a crop of honey that Steve sells for his chosen charity every year through his web site. He is best known for his self-composed, performed and produced guitar instrumental music, but he has also played on the recordings of several other rock acts. He received a Grammy Award in 1991.
Joe Satriani though of making football as his career but when he heard that Jimi Hendrix had died, he told his coach he was quitting the game to become a guitarist and at that time he was only 14. Not only this, he has also taught Steve Vai. In 1978, he moved to Berkeley, California to pursue a music career and side by side he also started teaching too. He had under his wings some notable students such as Kirk Hammett (Metallica), David Bryson (Counting Crows), Kevin Cadogan (Third Eye Blind), Larry La Londe (Primus), Alex Skolnick (Testament), Phil Kettner (Laaz Rockit) and Charlie Hunter.
