August 7, 1942 born Gary Edward Keillor, today, is well known as Garrison Keillor. He is of Norwegian and Scottish ancestry and native of Minnesota. He is a man of diverse talent. Being an influential American author, humorist, columnist, musician, satirist, and radio personality. With a handsome personality, Keillor is a member of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party. Being an Episcopalian, he often uses his religious roots in his work. In 1966, Keillor graduated from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor's degree in English.

Keillor started exploring his interest in radio by working in a student-operated radio station in 1969, known today as Radio K. He worked as the host of "A Prairie Home Companion" played in morning time slot. Meanwhile he wrote The New Yorker and The Atlantic Monthly too. Keillor was striked with an idea to create a live radio show, after writing an article about the Grand Ole Opry. This show he hosted, "A Prairie Home Companion", was centered on the doings in the fictional town of Lake Wobegon which was based in part on Keillor's own hometown of Anoka. The show used to feature the weekly news from Lake Wobegon, a place "where all the women are strong, the men are good looking, and the children are above average." Other than this, performances, comic and vaudeville acts were featured in the show in the style of an "old time" radio show. By the very first show in 1974, the program became successful. It ran well for 13 years successfully until Keillor decided to end it. Its because Keillor worked on other projects, including another live radio program, "The American Radio Company", for several years. He started running several programs again in 1993,under the title "Prairie Home Companion" and it really worked well. Along with this, he has been the host of "The Writer's Almanac" too , produced and distributed by American Public Media.

Keillor has written about eight books for adults and 3 books for children. In addition to this, n addition to his books, he has written poetry and is a consummate story-teller whose voice can be heard on numerous recordings. He is married to violinist, Jenny Lind Nilsson, with whom he has a daughter. Keillor authored an advice column entitled "Mr. Blue" on Salon.com. He resigned on September 4, 2001 in an article entitled "Every dog has his day", after his heart surgery. A syndicated newspaper column started by Keillor in June 2005, is run bye Salon.com today. This column is an opinion piece in which Keillor expresses his opinions that underscore his beliefs. Though he is not specifically consider himself as either conservative or liberal but he has been critical of conservative politics, and the current administration in recent years. Another great work, the script for the for the 2006 movie version of "A Prairie Home Companion" was written by Keillor. He was featured in the movie as well. The movie was directed by Robert Altman.

Keillor is awarded and honored for his talents. In 1994, he was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame. He has been a favorite voice over artist for Honda UK advertisers. Keillor has got an excellent & mesmerizing style of speaking. Usually, Keillor hardly reads his monologue directly from the script, but the monotonous intonation and style of dress caricature Keillor successfully.

Keillor is famous as the host of the American Public Media show "A Prairie Home Companion, which is also known as Garrison Keillor's Radio Show on BBC 7 and in Ireland. Today, A Prairie Home Companion is heard by more than 4 million listeners each week on over 580 public radio stations. This show is heard abroad on America One and the Armed Forces Networks In Europe and the Far East. In Keillor own words, he remembers, "When the show started, it was something funny to do with my friends, and then it became an achievement that I hoped would be successful, and now it's a good way of life."
