With new artists emerging in the beginning of '80s, George Strait is considered to be one of the most outstanding country artist. Strait carried forward the tradition of old country music in the new genres without any change in his musical rhythms. He sparked the waves of neo-traditionalist singers from Randy Yoakam to Clint Black, Garth Brooks, and Alan Jackson.

George Strait was born and brought up in Texas as the son of junior high school teacher and operated a ranch that was being followed in the Strait family for about hundred years from now. His mother left the family taking her daughter along at the time he was a child. He spent most the time of weekdays in town and the weekends on the ranch. However, he developed interest in music as a teenager and joined a rock & roll garage band . After completing his high-school graduation in the late '60s, Strait joined college but soon discontinued and escaped with his high-school girlfriend Norma. In the year 1971, George joined Army and was posted to Hawaii. There he started playing country music with an Army sponsored country band named as Rambling Country. Under this band, they performed several dates off the base under the name Santee. He did not continue the Army anymore and left in the year of 1975. During this time the talented artist went back to Texas with a motive to complete his studies. Finally, George took admission in the Southwest Texas State University at San Marcos and studied agriculture. Over here, planned and formed his independent country band, Ace in the Hole.

In the beginning of '70s, Ace in the Hole released handful made records for an independent Dallas-based label D, but they never showcased their performance anywhere else. The talented artist made an effort to establish a separate niche in Nashville, but could not implement because of his loose connections. In 1979, he met Erv Woolsay, who was a Texas club owner who was formerly associated with MCA Records. Woolsay along with some MCA executives came down to Texas to listen to Strait's music. His singing capabilities convinced the company so much that they made him sign a contract with them in the year of 1980.

In 1981, George Strait's first single "Unwound" was released which reached the Top Ten position. Some more released came after the release of his first single which included "Down and Out," followed by "If You're Thinking You Want a Stranger (There's One Coming Home )" that reached at number three position in the beginning of 1982. This induced a spark in the string of Top Ten hits that retained all through the '90s. His hit single "Fool Hearted Memory" retained a 31 number one singles in the year of 1982.

The '80s era brought some of the enthralling country singles charts, and his albums all of which went platinum or gold. However, in 1992, he made his first movie titled "Pure Country" in which Strait was featured a lead role.
