Guns and Roses entered the music scene when rock was overtaken by Dance and Pop music. This is when the band brought some raw and ugly rock and roll back into the style. The had a bad boys image and there was nothing about them that could be slated as positive, but they had this appeal which was was just unquestionable. They were violent, ugly and some what sensitive, as their song "Sweet Child O' Mine" displayed.
The band released their EP in 1986. This led to a contract with Geffen, and their debut album. The album, "Appetite for Destruction" didn't pick up initially. They wen to on tour to promote the album and when MTV played the song "Sweet Child O Mine," the album began selling like hot cakes. The album and the single both scorched to Number 1 on the charts and instantly, Guns and Roses became the biggest band in the world.
By the end of 1988, the band released "G N' R Lies," the album was a combination of their four new songs and songs from their first EP. The song "One in a Million," sparked a huge controversy as Axl Rose conveyed ideas of misogyny, bigotry, and pure violence during the five minute length of the song.In 1990, the band began work on their follow up to "Appetite for Destruction." The same year Adler was fired from the band for his drug abuse. He was replaced by Matt Sorum. The band also added keyboardist Dizzy Reed to the lineup. By the time the band finished recording the album, they had enough material for two albums. So Guns and Roses went on to release "Use Your Illusion I" and "Use Your Illusion II" after much delay in September 1991.
Slash left the band in 1996 and that left Rose the only remaining member of the original Guns and Roses. Rumors kept on circulating as the band failed to come out with any new material. Finally after eight years of waiting, Guns and Roses released their song "Oh My God" that was featured on the soundtrack of the 1999 Arnold Schwarzenegger film, "End of Days."
No matter what the end of the band might be, their popularity and legendary stats continues to grow.
The five original members of the Guns and Roses have become cult icons and forever they shall remain the hearts and minds of rock music fans. By writing one of the most influential albums of all time, they have secured their place as a one of the greatest and unforgettable bands in music history.
