There are very few singers who are as melodious and talented as Iron and Wine. As aforementioned, the name Iron & Wine is the stage and recording title for Florida singer-songwriter Sam Beam, who was raised in South Carlolina. He caught the attention of Jonathan Poneman, the honcho of Sub Pop, and was asked to send material to the label for submission. The enterprising musician sent two full length album to Poneman, who then slimmed it down to just twelves songs titled, The Creek Drank the Cradle and released in 2002.. The great thing about this album is that it brought all of Beam's talent to the fore with him writing, performing, recording, and producing every track on the album by himself at a studio in his home. The albums combination of acoustic guitars, banjo, and slide guitar, soon took hold of the public's imagination and Beam was well on his road to musical glory. Beamls music has been compared to the likes of Nick Drake, Simon and Garfunkel, Neil Young, Elliott Smith, and Ralph Stanley, but make no mistake, his is an original voice and music that must be listened to be believed.
2003 saw the release of the tender hearted The Sea and The Rhythm, and EP that feature five tracks going along the same road as those on the debut; one of the reasons being that the tracks included in the album were recorded during The Creek Drank the Cradle sessions. Beam then head to the studio for the first time to record his sophomore album Our Endless Numbered Days, out in 2004. This album was hi-fi(on account of it being recorded in a professional studio), and also saw a significant increase in fidelity. The focus of the album still lay on acoustics but the contribution of new band members gave it a very different sound. His next EP Woman King was release in February 2005 followed by another EP In the Reins in September 2005.
All his albums have ensured a steady increase in popularity and have herealded his arrival as a musician of rare talent and ability. So if you want to be hypnotized by some remarkable music , then you must buy your tickets to Iron and Wine Live ant a venure near you.
