Jackyl initially originated as the metal singers at the time their debut was album was released. But, it was eventually found out that they are more inclined towards the rock styles of singing. Their debut album was released in the year of 1992, and it after that they switched to the rock music.

The band was formed in 1990, in Georgia with band members like Jesse James Dupree on vocals, guitarist Jeff Worley, Chris Worley on drums, bassist Tom Bettini, and guitarist Jimmy Stiff. They took their inspiration from the popular bands such as AC/DC, Lynyrd Skynyrd to name just a few.The band was signed to Geffen Records which was supposed to be their first ever break that kick started their musical career.
