Jewel, originally known as Jewel Kilcher was born on May 23, 1974, in Payson, UT. However, her upbringing was done in an old village of Homer, AK, where she started learning music at a very young age of six. She is considered as one of the most versatile female pop singer of her times. Jewel was amongst those pop artists who were sensational in their own way. After her parents got separated from each other, she stayed with her father and went on several tours for seven whole years.

Later on she joined Michigan's Interlochen Fine Arts Academy, after which she started writing her own songs. However, soon after graduating Jewel went back to her mother in San Diego, where she indulged herself into various small day jobs. But, all this didn't go for long she wanted to develop her singing and song writing capabilities. Eventually, she dropped the idea of working and started practicing and sharpening her talent.

It was during this time that she completely concentrated on music and established herself as one of the most appraised artists of her times. What kick started her career was her performance at the Innerchange, a coffee house in Pacific Beach. This was the event which led her to develop her singing skills more. Jewel's professional musical break came up when she signed a contract with the Atlantic Records in the year of 1995. Under this label, she released her debut LP titled "Pieces Of You." But, it couldn't generate much of an action amongst audience. Eventually, the album's one of the single titled "Who Will Save Your Soul," which became one of the biggest hit song, due to which the album got positive reviews. Apart from this, the album comprised of two more songs such as "You Were Meant For Me," and "Foolish Games" which also rocked the crowds nationally as well as internationally.

Other follow ups were 1998s "Night Without Armor," which was a collection of her poetry, followed by her second full-length album titled "Spirit," released in the consecutive year, and "Chasing Down The Dawn" which was issued by the end of the year 2000.
