He started his music journey from Berklee College of Music and found it great learning experience. The stage was set for John Mayer to set the music world on fire with his music. To make it big he settled in Atlanta, and set the eye on the target which was within his reach. After one year of rigorous practice, he issued his debut solo effort, "Inside Wants Out" in 1999.

Besides this, he became a regular performer in the Atlanta club circuit. By the time he popularity start growing and he began playing at many famous venues including Eddie's Attic. In March 2000, he performed in the popular Southwest Music Festival. This performance bagged him a recording contract with Aware Records. Actually Aware Records is a subsidiary of Columbia.

After this, he began working on his major label album. Fortunately, he worked with producer John Alagia. Earlier, John had worked with some hugely popular artists like Ben Folds Five and Dave Matthews. Then, he issued his debut album, "Room for Squares." This album was a complete acoustic effort by Mayer. This album featured a full electric band. During the recording of this album, the emphasis was laid on Mayer's unique and smooth voice.

His style is often compared to Dave Matthews. With this release, John's fan base grew substantially larger. Then, he embarked on an extensive cross-country tour to support this release. This was followed up by "Heavier Things" in 2004. This album earned him another Grammy in the category of song of the year. In 2005, he issued "Daughters." Catch this dynamic singer performing live.
