Jurassi 5 was a band that was formed by five people in the year 1992-1993 at the Los Angeles, California, at a venue named Good Life. It is a five-piece hi hop band.
The band was formed by the rappers Chali 2na, Akil, Zaakir aka Soup, Mark 7even, as well as turntable maestros DJ Nu-Mark and DJ Cut Chemist. All of them came together from two different crews, to form a new band together. Earlier, they were the members of the group Rebels of Rhythm and Unity Committee. After performing the band they started working together. In the year 1990, the group was appeared for the TVT Records, with their single "Unified Rebelution". With this number they made a mark among the listeners as a group of hip hop movement. They have also played along with other band such as Company Flow, Black Star and Kool Keith. In the year 1997, on November, the Jurassic 5 released their first EP and with this release they created an uproar in the hip hop movement. No doubt their first EP was a smashing hit. As the popularity of the EP grew, the band decided to repackage the EP to attract more listeners. They introduced more additional tracks, and eventually released in the year 1998 on December as the full-length debut album, of the band entitled Jurassic 5 LP.
The tracks of Jurassic 5 LP brought back the attitude and feelings of the old school of the Native Tongues Posse of the New York city, of the late 80s alliance of artists who really asserted the social agenda of the rap culture. All these included the famous De La Soul, the Jungle Brothers and A Tribe Called Quest. All this could be predominantly be found on the song "Concrete Schoolyard" ("Let's take it back to the concrete streets/Original beats from real live MCs"). The album, of the Jurassic 5 also provided the band with a pleasant surprise, that is their album appeared in the US Top 40 single and then it reached number 35 in November 1998. Some other popular and charming tracks was "Jayou", which was established around a hypnotic flute loop from Pleasure Web's "Music Man Part 2".
In the year1999, Jurassic 5 left TVT Records and signed up to Interscope Records. Under them, the band again re-released the Jurassic 5 EP. After one year, they released their second album "Quality Control", which was their first album that was released on a major label. The album went on to become a huge hit and was also critically acclaimed. Then in the year 2003, they came out with their third album, "Power In Numbers", which was also a huge hit. After the release of this album, the band embarked upon extensive touring and also performed at the Lollapalooza festival in the summer of 2003. After some time Cut Chemist, left Jurassic 5 to start his own solo career. Nevertheless, the group continued their tour. They returned to the studio to record their next album. They released their fourth album, "Feedback", in the year 2006. "Work it Out" was the first single from "Feedback", which is receiving huge acclaim from the industry.
What makes all their songs popular, is their unique playing of the musical style. They are known for no-frills ethos musical approach that ignites the old school hip hop. They have different delivery of tag team, with the four MCs, tag-team delivery, with the four MCs frequently exchanging the lyrics, that is finishing one another's sentences, speaking words one after the other, and so on and their hip-hop is somewhat similar to barbershop quartet. They have got inventive and positive lyrics that deals with their own promotion and social contemporary. They have also toured at the Warped Tour in the year 2000, the Download Festival, and festivals such as Bonnaroo and Reading.
