Background- Her melodious soprano solo took the world by storm when she appeared as the lead singer of Riverdance.

Katie McMahon became famous with her rare and charming soaring soprano solo with the hit musical troupe Riverdance, the singles topped the charts in Ireland and remained there for the next three months. The Irish Times has described the voice of Katie McMohan as "poetry, perfection and purity". Katie McMahon was born and brought up in Dublin, Ireland. Her mother taught her the first song "Silent Night" in German, when she was only 3 years old. She grew up listening to choral Christmas music, Ballet music and Early music. She also learned piano from her mother. She studied piano, recorder, voice, harp and theory in the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin. She also studied harp with Denise Kelly. When she was 15 years old, she became a chorister in Christchurch Cathedral. She then went to Trinity College to study Italian and Drama Studies. But later she left it and concentrated in music. Eventually, she joined National Chamber Choir and later joined the vocal group Anuna. With Anuna she appeared as a soloist on their first two CDs.

During one of her performance, Bill Whelan, the composer of Riverdance heard Katie perform with Anuna. He liked her song so much, that he approached her and asked her to sing a solo in the interval piece at the Eurovision. The piece was a super successful and after that Katie toured with the Riverdance throughout the world for the next five years as their lead vocalist. It was during this tour, that she met her husband Ben Craig and got married to him within few months. She has been living in Minnesota for the past three years.

After Riverdance, she formed her own band and troupe of Irish dancers and has been performing ever since. With time, they became popular all over the States. The troupe play Irish traditional music with a Classical edge. Katie performances has also been enjoyed by two famous celebrities and they are President Clinton and Bono (U2). According to them she has got "an amazing voice". She then released her solo CDs, "After the Morning", "Shine" and "Celtic Christmas", which was critically acclaimed. Katie has also been awarded the best folk and acoustic artist by the Minnesota Music Academy. What's more she has also, recently, embarked upon extensive tour, touring the world with the group Secret Garden as their lead singer & harpist. Presently, she is busy working with her fourth solo CD, which is actually a great collection of different lullabies from around the world.

In the year 1998, Katie McMahon released her first solo CD titled "After the Morning". Her crystal clear and pure voice can easily adapt to different styles of music, with considerable ease. She has got incredible stage presence and can mesmerize and lures her audience, till she has finished singing. The CD "After the Morning" opens up with "Caleno," that is played with slow rhythmic ballad with simple harmonies. The song is melodious and it really strikes a chord in the heart of her listeners. She creates a deep bonding bond with her audience, that makes them coming back to her again and again, basking in her melodious voice. The next track is "'Til the Sun Comes Up (Nil Se'n La)" is very much energetic and up beat. The song is one of the favorite of Katie. "Heartland" is a same version of "Home and the Heartland" from Riverdance. "A Stór Mo Chroi" is a dark and dull song.
