Robert James Ritchie, is one of the most famous and respected rappers of all times. Confused? Well, we are talking about Kid Rock the man behind modern rap. Kid Rock is a true performer who plays music of many genres ranging from rapcore to country pop. Born on 17th January 1971 he started his hip-hop career at the age of 15. Soon his unique style of rapping made him popular in one of Mount Clemens, Michigan's housing projects. Later he moved to the land of rappers, New York City and landed in a tour deal with Ice Cube and Too $hort. It was in 1991 when he attracted almost 700 people to The Majestic in Detroit and that show was in news for three years on the trot. This was the time when it was really difficult to get tickets to his shows, and mind you he was just 18 at that time. Earlier, in 1989 he released his debut album "Grits Sandwiches" on the Jive label aptly produced by Too $hort, D Nice and many others. His peculiar attitude became very popular among the teens despite the album not doing too well.
Singles from this album were described as "the most indecent thing ever heard" by the president of the university when he fined a college DJ for $25,000 for playing one of the numbers from his album "Yodelin". After the release of this album he was attending an autograph signing session at Record Time in Roseville, Michigan when a budding rapper challenged his fame. This 17 year old rapper was Marshall Mathers III, who later became famous "Eminem". But impressed by his rapping style at last, Kid and Eminem became friends, that exists till now. They both appeared on each others albums as Eminem did the last verse of "Fuck Off on Devil Without A Cause" whereas Kid did the cuts on "Just Don't Give A Fuck" from The Slim Shady LP.
After his successful stint he was later singed on with Atlantic Records and soon released his famous album "Devil Without a Cause". This album was a smash hit in 1998 and it was in this year that he tasted real success. This album became 11x platinum in the US and also became one of the top 50 top selling albums of all time. Further his popularity was tested on the sitcom, when he did a cameo of singer Bette Midler as spoof of his hit single "Bawitdaba". In 2000, Kid released a new album "The History of Rock" of which he acquired the rights from his indie-label records and further remixed or re-recorded the best numbers for the album. "American Bad Ass" was the only new number which was left untouched and was a smash hit. Later in that year Kid accompanied famous rock band "Phish" at various concerts in Las Vegas. All those concerts were completely sold out. In the mean time he released another album titled "Cocky" which was another hit under his belt. In 2002 Kid released a cover of ZZ Top's "Legs" exclusively for the album on WWE's Smack Down Records entitled 'Forceable Entry'.
More recently he made a brief cameo in "Gretchen Wilson's music videos for the numbers like "Redneck Woman" and "All Jacked Up". His latest album was released on 28th February 2006 titled as "Live Trucker" which is a commercial hit. Now he is onto various tours doing unlimited concerts thus, if he is paying a visit to your town just make sure you book your tickets now from the closest ticket vendor.
