Hill began singing when she was quite young. Before ushering her musical journey, she played many minor roles on television. At the age of thirteen, she began performing on stages. Her biggest moment came when she won five trophies from her eleven nominations in 1999, Grammy awards. She won in the categories of, "Best New Artist," "Album of the Year," "Best New Artist," "Best R&B Album," and "Best R&B Vocal Performance." With winning many awards, she became the very first woman to do this. After this she embarked on an extensive tour with Atlanta rappers Outkast. In 2002, she issued her double-disc, "MTV Unplugged No.2.0."
