Lauryn Hill is acclaimed as mother of hip-hop invention. She made her sensational debut with "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill." With her jest and diligent efforts not only established herself but created her own genre. Her music is a ground breaking blend of rap, reggae, soul, and R&B.
Lauryn Hill spent her youth listening to her music lover parents. They had a multi-generational, multi-genre record collection.

Hill began singing when she was quite young. Before ushering her musical journey, she played many minor roles on television. At the age of thirteen, she began performing on stages. After some initial gigs, she went to Columbia University. In between, she joined many local bands but couldn't get the right direction to mould her career. She released her debut album which was a collaborative effort. Her first major hit, "Miseducation" hit the music charts.

Instantly, she was acclaimed as a breakthrough artist. The buzz was overwhelming as her radio also supported her. By the time she became a national media icon. That year she appeared in many magazines ranging from Teen People to Time to Esquire. She was also credited for assimilating hip-hop into popular mainstream music.

Her biggest moment came when she won five trophies from her eleven nominations in 1999, Grammy awards. She won in the categories of, "Best New Artist," "Album of the Year," "Best New Artist," "Best R&B Album," and "Best R&B Vocal Performance." With winning many awards, she became the very first woman to do this. After this she embarked on an extensive tour with Atlanta rappers Outkast. In 2002, she issued her double-disc, "MTV Unplugged No.2.0."
