Get your tickets to see one of the most resilient hip hop artists of all time, a rapper who has pulled himself up by his bootstraps and made a name for himself as being the only hip hop artist of his time to remain in the spotlight- it's time to get your tickets to see LL Cool J live in concert. With a career that has spanned over two decades and a world of musical talent and sex appeal, LL Cool J continues to win fans and critical acclaim on an international scale.
LL Cool J had a rough start in life, having to deal with a father who had shot his mother and grandfather and his mother's boyfriend who was violently abusive. It is interesting to note that two of LL Cool J's trademark symbols, his hats and the way he licks his lips were habits that formed when he was dealing with the trauma of abuse. But one thing that LL Cool J did have was music and it was rapping and music that would prove to be his way out.
At the age of 13 LL Cool J began his foray into studio work and with the popularity of his underground single 'I need a Beat' LL Cool J found himself with a record label in 1984. He dropped out of school to concentrate on his first album, which not only met with widespread critical acclaim but also made LL Cool J one of the first rappers to make pop oriented rap using conventional song structure. Along with rappers like The Fresh Prince, it looked like the flossy attitude of pop rap would be a good thing for LL Cool J but by the end of the decade, the impetus of hip hop began to shift to more serious themes. LL Cool J then released his signature album Mama Said Knock You Out that was well received critically and commercially, spawning the hit singles "Round the Way Girl' and the title track from the album.
LL Cool J has continued to churn out albums and balance an acting career as well- his recent album is considered by many as his most solid and comprehensive effort to date but LL Cool J promises bigger things with his next album, which will include collaborations with Ginuwine, JLo and Freeway. LL Cool J was named the tenth greatest hip hop rapper of all time by MTV, is an author, producer and is also involved in a fashion line. He has 2 Grammy and 10 Soul Train Awards to his name.
