Oasis became an overnight sensation in 1994. The group is acclaimed as most important bands of the decade along with the likes of Suede and Blur. Oasis is responsible for the superb comeback of the British guitar pop in the mainstream. The group is led by talented guitarist/songwriter Noel Gallagher. Originally, the band was formed by school pals Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs (guitar), Paul McGuigan (bass) Liam Gallagher (vocals) and Tony McCaroll (drums). After spending a few years as the guitar technician for the famous band Stone Roses, Noel Gallagher came back to Manchester to find the band that his brother had formed; as he agreed to join the band and started contributing the tracks. Other members also agreed and formed Oasis. With this new line up the band members began intensive rehearsing.
After playing some gigs in small clubs, the band-members got an opportunity to make Alan McGee, the head of Creation Records, to listen to their demo. With this attempt the get successful to impress him and eventually signed up by Alan. In the spring of 1994, the band issued their debut single, "Supersonic." This release earned some favorable reviews. One of the tracks from the album "I'd Like to Teach the World to sing" became a major hit. Their smash hit ballad "Live Forever" was acclaimed as a huge hit in England. In 1994, the band issued their debut album "Definitely Maybe" which became the fastest-selling debut record in British history and peaked at number one in various music charts.
Soon the whole nation was engulfed by the Oasis mania and it has been continuing since their first release to till date. After scoring this huge hit, the band began playing at larger venues and every new single outperformed the last one. At the beginning of 1995, the band began concentrating on America. Their hit single "Live Forever" became a major hit of MTV. During their US tour the band recorded their new single, "Some Might Say." The single was issued on the eve of departure of drummer Tony McCaroll. Tony was replaced by Alan White. This release became an instant hit.
In 1996, the band issued "Morning Glory" which was acclaimed the second-biggest hit album in British history. With this release the band became a universal phenomenon. Soon, they embarked on an exhaustive tour. In the spring of 1997, the band issued "Be Here Now" which earned some enthusiastic reviews. In 1999, Bonehead left the band. In 2000, the group celebrated their tremendous success with release of their first ever live album, "Familiar to Millions." This was followed by Columbia in 2004 and Shakermaker in 2005.
