Relient K is a potent punk pop band with brilliant song writing skills. The band, through its song, brings personal feelings and beliefs under one Universal roof thus touching the heart of music lover with their brand of music. It is Christian music at its best and this fact is illustrated by the band playing to packed venues when on tour. Well, they are on tour again, and if you want to awaken your sleeping faith with some Christian punk-pop, then you must buy your tickets to Relient K Live!
Their music is reminiscent of the British Invasion bands, such as The Who, and sometimes is as overtly brash as these bands were. Relient K, a Canton, Ohio, burst on the scene of Christian punk pop, when the joined the parade of other artists like Ghoti Hook, Slick Shoes, MxPx etc. Their self titled debut "Relient K" largely caught no due to snotty attitude and catchy melodies. It was the kind of music that allowed you to get in touch with God and feel good doing it. The young were enthused with the punk rock kind of sound and did not care whether the songs were about god or not. They just liked the music and that was it. The underlined spiritual concerns were enhanced by the melodious beats of this remarkable band.
Their sound was further honed by the producers of the album guitarist Mark Townsend and DC Talk. It is a testimonial to their ability that experienced artists like Mark Townsend deemed it fit to produce their album. In August 2001, their album Tongue in Cheek release to popular acclaim selling almost 300,000 copies. This unprecedented success meant that Relient K was building momentum and this impetus built up on the brunt of their 200 live shows in North America in 2001 only. Their rise to stardom was also a result of continuous innovation with their music. Their third full-length album, Two Lefts Don't Make A Right , But Three do became an instant hit debuting at No. 38 on the US Billboards Top 200 album chart, when it was released in the spring of 2003.
Their fourth album was interestingly titled "Mmhmm" and this chart topping album quickly followed their third album, in November 2004. The album was again produced by some dynamic singer including dc Talk's Townsend, the lead singer Matt Thiessen and mixed by the gifted Tom Lord-Alge. It went on to sell over 51,000 copies during its first week itself. This band, as aforementioned, is now on tour and you will be missing something substantial if you miss out on their live performances.
