When people were used to listen to country pop, jazz and reggae it was this Canadian band "Rush" which broke this monotony with their rock music. Rush was the only rock band of its time which touched the zenith of success. This progressive rock and heavy metal band was born in 1968 in Willowdale, Ontario comprising three members, Geddy Lee formerly known as Gary Lee Weinrib, Alex Lifeson real name Alexander Zivojinovich, and Neil Peart. They were the three pillars of this powerful yet pulsating rock band. But now there are four people in the band and the fourth member is John Rutsey. This band was actually formed in 1968 but they released their first album in 1974 which made them immensely popular for their complex compositions. They stunned the world as well as rock music arena with their unique yet difficult compositions. This made them earn various fans round the globe and in no time their concert tickets started selling like hot cakes. Till now people book their tickets well in advance for their concert and if they are coming to your friendly neighborhood, just make sure you book your ticket now.
Since their emergence they left a weighty musical influence on various artists such as Dream Theater, Primus, Metallica, Smashing Pumpkins, and fellow Canadian rockers The Barenaked Ladies and many more. Rush's musical journey has been the ride of a roller coaster. Once critics wrote them off from the rock music arena but they banged in with a loud performance which stitched the critic's mouth. In their 31 years of musical journey Rush has been jeweled with various awards. Rush was awarded with the Juno Award quite a few times and were also inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1994. Furthermore, Lee, Lifeson, and Peart were not only Officers of the Order of Canada but also became the first musicians to receive the honor. In their musical tourney they graduated to highest level of music and instruments and became dexterous players on their individual instruments. Each and every member of the band won various awards in the magazine reader's polls and in the collective as a band they won 22 gold records and 14 platinum (3 multi-platinum) records making them one of the best selling rock artists in history. In the current scenario Rush is tied with Kiss and only trail behind the Beatles and The Rolling Stones for the most constant successive gold and platinum albums.
From 1968 to the present Rush's musical style has marked a lot of changes as now their album is highly influenced by British-Blues rock. Their main sources of inspiration are the rock bands such as Cream, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Deep Purple. Rush released their first full-fledged album "Not Fade Away" in 1973. This album soon made the whole world dance to their tunes. It was in 1980 when Rush decided to break free from their usual image and their experiment was successful with the albums like Presto and Roll the Bones. From Presto the band started opting for arrangements that were notably more guitar-centric. The current band members of Rush are as follows:
