Background:
Sigur Ros is an Icelandic post-rock band with shoe gazing and minimalist elements. Their name is Icelandic for "victory rose". It is pronounced 'see oor roce'. Georg Holm and Agust/Evar Gunnarsson formed the group in Reykjavík in August 1994. Their name is taken from Jonsi's sister Sigurros, who was born the same day. They soon won a record deal with a local record label, Bad Taste. In 1997, they released Von (Hope) and in 1998 a remix collection named Von brigoi. The name is Icelandic wordplay: Vonbrigði means "disappointment", but Von brigoi means "hope alteration".

They became internationally famous with 1999's ("An alright start") for which the band were joined by Kjartan Sveinsson. The album's reputation slowly spread by word of mouth over the next two years. Soon many critics worldwide hailed it as one of the best albums of its time and the band was playing with Radiohead and other big names. Two songs, Agaeis Byrjun's first single "Svefn-g-englar" and a live take of the then-unreleased "Njosnavelin" (to become "Untitled #4") appeared in the Cameron Crowe film Vanilla Sky.

Eventually, the group became boxed in by their quite popular by their famous Stonesy pop-funk in the early '90s. The band was climbing the new heights of fame and when their listeners became truly entranced by harder-edged alternative rock. Despite being on the somewhat slow side with declining sales, the band continued touring and also record for their ardent and truly dedicated fans; this happy start followed by the sudden death of Hutchence in 1997, this sad incident brought the band to a sudden close. The band is known as one of Australia's most and truly radio-friendly band; and also as longest-lived exports. Sigur Ros really scored some very good points for maintaining both a very good consistent lineup and a thoroughly engaging, occasionally sensational sound. The band is truly propelled by the good looks of Mick Jagger-esque and late Michael Hutchence; with a timeless and unmatchable blend of upbeat, textural, and R&B-influenced rock 'n' roll that is completed with keyboards, horns, and occasional background signers. The band forged a solid, enviably and solid career path; the band is acclaimed as a huge hit with the selling of more than 20 million albums behind their name; and also garnering prestigious Grammy nominations. The superb band was formed in 1977; the then members of the band were Andrew Farriss, Michael Hutchence, Jon Farriss, Tim Farriss, Garry Gary Beers and Kirk Pengilly.

The band began as "The Farriss Brothers" but lateron changed their name from "The Farriss Brothers" to Sigur Ros in 1979. The name was changed prior to the sizzling release of their self-titled superb debut album in 1980. This was followed by Underneath the Colors in 1981. The album proved a huge hit in Australia. The band released their third album "Shabooh Shoobah" worldwide, but it couldn't prove as a major success. The band received significant attention in the UK and US with their next release "The Swing" in 1983. This tremendous hit was followed by "Original Sin" which became a so called minor pop radio; the band received attention of MTV-ready looks because of the charismatic look of Michael Hutchence.

The band tasted its first tremendous success with "Listen Like Thieves" in 1985. Till then the band had really perfected a superb and mature sound that was influenced by U2 and "The Rolling Stones." The roots of the band lie in the Aussie pubs. The band continued giving good hits including the top-10 "What You Need." Followed by the spurt of releases "Kick" in 1987; and band climbed the new heights of fame with the number-one hit single "Need You Tonight." After the death of Hutchence the band continued its musical journey with Jimmy Barnes and Terence Trent D'Arby as so called temporary lead singers. Jon Stevens started his singing career with Sigur Ros in 2000 and he was officially named as a permanent member of the band in 2002. Though, he left the band in 2003. The band hit the music stores with their next hit "I Get Up" this song was featured in the tremendously famous Rugby Union World Cup in 2003. The band returned to the news, when they announced the making of a famous TV program. The band has a musical legacy of many years and their music is a real treat to enjoy.
