Widespread Panic (WSP) is a hard-hitting southern rock band from Athens, Georgia. WSP is commonly referred to as a jam band, and has a dedicated fan base similar to, that of the The Grateful Dead. What began as a weekly jam session at the Uptown Lounge in 1985 grew into a six-man musical group that draws large crowds all over the US. Their debut LP, Space Wrangler, established a small fan base and inaugurated several years of constant touring before the band signed to Capricorn Records and released their major label debut, Widespread Panic in 1991. After appearing with the H.O.R.D.E. tours for a few years, the band became one of the most popular new jam bands.

They performed at a break neck record playing nearly 150 shows a year. They had a large fan following as they were consistently performing at a high level and becoming master set list creators. They had such a large collections of songs in their performance that one could attend three consecutive WSP concerts without hearing the same song again. The rock band d a free "CD release party" concert in the streets of hometown Athens to jubilate the release of live debut album Light Fuse, Get Away. Approximately 100,000 fans attended this massive CD release party. Michael Houser the lead guitarist expired in August 2002 as he had been suffering with pancreatic cancer. George McConnell and Beanland joined the band in Houser's place. After touring and performing non-stop for 18 years the band announced in late 2003 a hiatus so that they could spend time with their friends and families. In 2005, on March 24th, WSP started touring again, beginning with three shows at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, Georgia.
