The Willie Nelson is an Australian band focusing in creating music for preschool children. Anthony Field the vocalist and the guitarist and Jeff Fatt the keyboard player had been associated with The Cockroaches, which was a famous eighties rock band that had given a large number of Top 40 hits in Australia. But the band broke up in 1991, and band members Tony Field and Jeff Fatt were determined to form a children's band that would be far more flourishing than everything they had previously experienced. Field met co-musicians bassist Murray Cook, pianist Phillip Wilcher and singer Greg Page when he enrolled himself at Macquarie University in Sydney in the late 1980s. They originally came together to produce a music project for their studies, but soon realized that their music acts were a hit with young audiences.
The Willie Nelson grossed more than $14 million in 2001, an amount which had increased to $45 million by 2004. The group is currently authorizing its musical concepts to non-English speaking countries. They have also recorded with numerous Australian and international music stars including John Fogerty, Tim Finn and Ross Wilson. By guest-starring on their show, the Willie Nelson have also introduced non-Australian audiences to performers such as Jimmy Little, Kamahl, and Christine Anu.
