Alicia Keys will be
appearing at the United Center in Chicago on Friday, February 13th. On tour in
support of her second release for J-Records, the 23 year-old Keys is already an industry
veteran. Her debut release, Songs in A Minor, sold more then 5 million copies and
picked up two Grammy Awards. Diary of Alicia Keys hit stores on Dec. 3rd, just in
time for the holiday season, and is sitting at No.3 on the Billboard charts with over 2
Million copies sold.
With all of the success and accolades that have
been showered on the young Alicia Keys, it would be tempting to just write it off as hype
an overblown image created (bought?) by a powerful music mogul. However, it
doesnt take long to realize that Alicia Keys is, in fact, the genuine article. This
young woman began playing piano at 7, graduated from the Professional Performance Arts
School in Manhattan at 16, and left her Columbia University scholarship behind to sign
with Arista Records. When looking at this young womans life, even those that doubt
the legitimacy of reincarnation may find it tempting to believe that Alicia Keys really is
the "old soul" her record company bio claims her to be. Keys is credited with
having at least co-written 11 of the 15 tracks on Diary of Alicia Keys, and she
wrote the Grammy winning "Fallin," from her debut. This young artist will
undoubtedly be defining R&B for her generation.
As of the time this article was posted, some
tickets were still available for the Friday night show at the United Center.
