| Todd Fletcher, who for all practicable
purposes is June & the Exit Wounds, has released one of the finest pop records this
year with a little more Haven Hamilton, please on the Parasol label. Fletcher, a
native of Champaign IL. has been down the pop road before, having previously released two 7" singles for Parasol. Both of these
previous releases are out of print, which pisses me off because after hearing a little
more Haven Hamilton, please I want to hear more. And let's face it, how often do you
say that?
From the opening track "How much I really love
you" to the closing cut "Idly By", you feel as if you are listening to lost
or rare B sides from Todd Rundgren or The Beach Boys. Todd Fletcher's brand of pop is the
light and airy type that was so popular in the early to mid 70's. He has a real knack for
writing great melodies with big but not overpowering harmonies, you never feel as if you
are being bowled over but rather drawn in and swept away. There's so much to like about
June & the Exit Wounds and I touched on what I feel are a couple of the highlights but
believe me, there are still a few gems left on this CD. So if you are or were a fan of
early "Runt" or The Beach Boys, then I can't see how you won't be a fan of June
& the Exit Wounds. Yes kids, it's just that good!
