The Blank Theory - Catalyst

The Blank Theory
Catalyst
4 Alarm Records

By Joseph Filipak

The first time that I heard The Blank Theory was when I reviewed their first CD, Blinding Process. At the time I said, and I quote,"If they could come up with 5 songs that are as good as 'Faded' and 'Broken Glass' then they would have something to jump up and down about." Well I'm here to tell ya, they put those two songs on the new release with six new songs to make a CD that has me jumping up and down (can you say pogo stick!).

Anyhow what do they sound like, you may be saying. Well two words come to mind, 1) loud 2) rock. Yes Virginia, they are a hard rock band, thank God and Hallelujah. And hey get this, they don't rap - no really they don't. They don't have DJ STUPID working the turntables. The Blank Theory just play this great melodic rock that has you banging your head till your neck snaps. The first song "corporation" lets you know what you are in for. It has this great opening power hook that brings you in just close enough to set you up for the one two punch that you get when the band kicks in, and kick in they do. Track two "Vanish", to me, is the single. This song has so many hooks that I was tripping over them. This is hard rock pop at its best. To me music is at its peak when it can transport you to a different environment and the last two songs "Daylight's New Day" and "The Disparate" do that for me. I have had the good fortune to see the Blank Theory live and they are not just a studio band. This band writes and plays songs that are extremely well executed.

Ok..ok, I like this band, and I know that if you like hard rock you will too. Also, I feel that they are a band that everyone will be talking about when they get the big record deal. So before you have to wait in line for tickets, go see them NOW and for God sake buy the disc. Congratulations guys, great CD!
