| It boils down to this: you either get this
album or you don't. You either like Hanoi Rocks and Quiet Riot (or appreciate the indie
rock irony of wearing their t-shirts to an Elliott Smith show), or you're hopelessly lost
when it comes to rock for rock's sake, booze, boobs, and fat guys in spandex. While the
glam metal acts of the distant eighties cry to VH1 about their lost limbs and pill
overdoses, I Love Rich is still lovin' the ladies, drinking whiskey, and making up songs
like "Ferrari Action" and "Touch My Sexx." If hair metal isn't for
you, there's no doubt you'll find this band nauseating. But the album was recorded and
mixed by Chuck Uchida, who has produced groups like the Old 97's and the Smoking Popes
(and is a mean barkeep to boot). And as if to further legitimize this riotous record, the
liner notes for The Greatest Rock'n'Roll Album of All Time were penned by MK
Ultra editor-in-chief Alex Zander, who once blew off a Blue Oyster Cult show to see I
Love Rich perform live. Now, both Chuck Uchida and Alex Zander have hundreds of rock
stars' home numbers on speed dial, so if those Chicago rock legends think Rich is alright,
who am I to argue? Just don't try to take them too seriously. You'll give yourself an
aneurism.
