Cincinnati Reds, is the professional baseball team which is one of six teams in the Central Division of the National League (NL). Initially the team was named as Red Stockings, but the changed it to Cincinnati Reds in the year 1890. Cincinnati and Ohio are the places where Cincinnati Reds play. However, the Great American BallPark which was opened in the year of 2003 is one of the biggest stadium which is located in these cities.

The history of Cincinnati Reds is one of the scintillating one as, during 1869, the Cincinnati Red Stockings was one of the first professional baseball organization which was formed in United States. However, after a time period of seven years, club also became a charter member of the NL. The year 1890, again saw the bonding of Cincinnati with NL, after they spent a decade in a rival league. However, the Reds won their first NL pennant and first World Series in the year of 1919. During the series, the main line-up included the outfielder Edd Roush and pitchers Hod Eller, Dutch Ruether, and Slim Sallee. But, the Black Sox scandal which erupted during this season faded the victory of the series over Chicago White Sox.

The team had also undergone several defeats specially, when the Reds defeated the Detroit Tigers to be the winners of the second World Series title in the 1940. After this, the team remained underground until the New York Yankees won over a 1961 team led by Frank Robinson. Moreover, other members included in the all-rounder teams of manager Sparky Anderson were Johnny Bench, Pete Rose, Joe Morgan, and Tony Perez. With this line-up, the Cincinnati Reds won the World Series championships in 1975 and 1976.

After a time period of ten years, Rose was designed as a manager in the year 1984 and served the team for quite a long time until the time he was dragged into the gambling allegations in the year of 1989. Rose did not come back in the team because his playing was banned for a life time. However, the Cincinnati Reds again won their fifth World Series title in the year 1990, under the leadership of first-year manager Lou Piniella along with the outfielder Eric Davis, shortstop Barry Larkin, and pitcher Jose Rijo.

2006 Season Preview:

It is said that President Bush will be throwing out the first pitch on Opening Day in Cincinnati. And , as for the Reds, they would probably face a better year than the previously gone years. Even if the team proves weak on pitching, winning 9-7 games will not be a tough scene.
