This team is one of the six teams in the Central Division of the National League (NL). The original name of the team was Colt.45s, and their playing grounds were Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. Later on the team changed their name as Houston Astros, an inspirational name which was suggested by Houston's Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center, which was a training place for the astronauts.

In the year 1962, the team became a part of the NL as an expansion team. It was after three years that the club became Astros and shifted to the Astrodome. Over here, the Houston had won division titles in the year 1983 and 1986. Four out of five years were the most golden year for the Astros from 1997 to 2001, but unfortunately did make any mark on the World Series.

However, Houston signed pitchers Roger Clemens, who came into the scene after a long period of retirement, followed by Andy Pettitte before the start of the year 2004. It was only during this time that the team traded for the outfielder Carlos Beltran in between that year. The team saw the franchise's first ever win in the postseason. In fact the Astros extended the St. Louis Cardinals to the National League Championship Series. The event took place before the team lost the series, with just one win short of their first World Series appearance.

2006 Season Preview:

This year the Astros is supposed to finish as second or third in the Central Division and hope to win the NL Wild Card. Although the eyes are set on the St. Louis Cardinals this year, but it would hardlly matter because they were expected to be winners in the last season as well. Infact, if the Houstons continue to play they played in the last season, gaining the victory over Cardinals in the NLCS, they would probably have better chances for a parade in Texas.
